History

The Social Work Department decided in November 1969 that there was a lack of community facilities in the Lochgreen / Slamannan Road Area and felt that there was a need for a pre school playgroup where mothers as well as children could meet.

After community consultation a premises was sought and the only available building was the old caretakers building in Lochgreen Road. The bungalow was in a terrible condition and after several weeks of hard work, fundraising and donations from local businesses the Bungalow was ready to open its doors to the children at the end of 1971.

In 1989 the lease for the Bungalow expired and the Bungalow was sold, the playgroup then had to look for new premises. The group gained planning permission to erect temporary classrooms in the car park of the playing fields at Slamannan Road and this is where the playgroup is situated to this day.

Lochgreen Playgroup has always been run by a Committee of volunteers and has relied on fundraising for its day to day running. In recent years the playgroup has been working in partnership with Falkirk Council which provides funding for pre-school children.
